secretgit
trust & safety

what we moderate, what we keep, what we never collect.

if you're in crisis

secretgit is a confession platform, not a crisis line. If you're thinking about hurting yourself or someone else, please reach a human now: findahelpline.com lists free, confidential crisis lines for over 130 countries — most operate 24/7, in your language, with translators on standby.

In the United States, dial 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline). In Türkiye, 182 (Sağlık Bakanlığı Halk Sağlığı Hattı). In the U.K., Samaritans on 116 123. None of these lines log identifying information beyond what's required by your phone carrier.

what we moderate

We moderate against five categories of harm, in this order of priority:

  1. Child safety. We remove on first detection any post involving sexual or violent content with minors. We report to NCMEC and equivalent jurisdictional authorities. This is the one category where we cooperate proactively with law enforcement without a subpoena.
  2. Doxxing & identification. We remove posts that name, describe, or otherwise identify another person without their consent — names, addresses, phone numbers, employer + city, license plates, social handles. The story is yours; the privacy of the people in your story isn't yours to spend.
  3. Active threats. Posts threatening specific identifiable people are removed and forwarded to law enforcement when the threat appears credible.
  4. Hate speech & harassment. Slurs targeting protected categories, harassment campaigns, calls to brigade specific people. The line: confession of an experience is welcome; using the platform as a launchpad for harassment isn't.
  5. Spam, scams, and AI-generated mass content. Repeated posts, affiliate spam, and bot-generated submissions are removed and the rate-limit hash is blocked.

We do not moderate for taste. Confessions about regret, infidelity, illegal recreational use, dark thoughts, or "wrong" feelings are kept in feed. The point of the platform is to receive those.

NSFW segregation

Posts flagged NSFW (by the writer or by automated detection) are blurred by default in the feed — readers tap to reveal. NSFW posts are also redacted in social-share previews so a sensitive post doesn't surface fully-rendered in someone's group chat unexpectedly.

Search-engine indexing of NSFW posts is suppressed via meta-robots. The post stays accessible by direct link but doesn't accumulate ranking signal. This protects the rest of the site's SafeSearch standing.

takedowns

If a post about you crosses the line — names you, identifies you, threatens you — email takedown@secretgit.com with the URL and a one-paragraph description of why. We respond inside 48 hours.

For DMCA-style copyright requests, the same address works. We honor valid notices; we don't honor obviously bad-faith ones, and we publish a quarterly transparency report (URL pending) summarizing volume and outcomes.

law enforcement

We respond to valid legal process from jurisdictions where we have a corporate presence. We do not have IP addresses, browser fingerprints, or account data to give — we don't collect them. The only piece of identifying material we hold against any post is the rate-limit hash described in how it works; we'll surface that on a valid subpoena and explain its (severe) limitations to the requester.

We do not respond to informal inquiries. We do not pre-emptively monitor user content for any specific person, group, or topic.
